Brandon Hale Banded Black Slip Matcha Bowl

This matcha bowl by Brandon Hale has gently upright sides that curve into a rounded base, with a softly irregular rim. Made from wild clay and finished with black slip, it was fired twice—first in an electric kiln, then in a wood-fired kiln. The exterior has a cloudy gray-blue surface with subtle variations in tone, small pits, and occasional raised marks, while the interior is a deeper charcoal blue with visible concentric lines.

The contrast between the lighter exterior and darker interior gives this generously proportioned bowl a quiet depth, inviting attention to both its form and its surface during the preparation and drinking of matcha.

Wild clay; black slip; double-fired (electric, then wood).

Brandon Haleによる抹茶碗です。やや直線的に立ち上がる側面から底に向かって緩やかに丸みを帯び、口縁にはわずかな揺らぎがあります。自然採取の土に黒化粧土を施し、電気窯で一度焼成した後、薪窯で再度焼成しています。外側は青みを帯びた灰色で、微妙な色の濃淡や小さな凹凸が見られます。内側はより深い青みがかった黒色で、同心円状の線が残っています。

外側と内側の色合いの対比が器に奥行きを与え、抹茶を点て、味わうひとときに、その形や表面の変化を楽しめます。

自然採取の粘土、黒化粧土、二度焼成（電気窯の後、薪窯）。
