Guy Matsuda Wood-Fired Tea Bowl

Wheel-thrown by Guy Matsuda from wild porcelain clay, this wood-fired tea bowl has a full, rounded body, a gently irregular rim, and a richly textured exterior. The unglazed surface reveals warm sandy tones, pale ash deposits, and rough, raised markings that give the bowl an almost geological character. Inside, the quieter, softly rounded surface retains subtle traces of the potter’s wheel. The contrast between the rugged exterior and the smoother interior makes this a particularly tactile and expressive piece. Its generous proportions invite both hands to gather around it, making it a distinctive bowl for preparing and enjoying matcha. Equally compelling as a sculptural object on its own.

ガイ・マツダが天然の磁土（ワイルドポーセリン）を使い、ろくろで成形して薪窯で焼成した茶碗。ふっくらと丸みを帯びた胴、わずかにゆらぎのある口縁、豊かな質感を持つ外側が特徴です。釉薬を掛けていない表面には、あたたかな砂色や淡い灰の付着、盛り上がった荒々しい模様が現れ、まるで自然の岩肌のような表情を生み出しています。一方、内側はやわらかな曲線を描き、ろくろ成形のかすかな跡が残されています。力強い外側と穏やかな内側との対比が、触れる楽しさと豊かな個性を感じさせる器です。両手で包み込むように持てるゆったりとした大きさで、抹茶を点てて味わうのに適しています。何も入れずにそのまま置いても、彫刻的な存在感を楽しめます。
