Deb Luekens Handsewn Large Chirimen Fabric Basket

This large fabric basket by Deb Luekens is handsewn from tightly coiled cotton roping, built slowly through careful, evenly spaced stitching. The expanded diameter allows the spiral structure of the coiling to fully emerge, giving the basket a grounded, quietly sculptural presence while remaining soft to the touch.

The interior base is finished with vintage chirimen kimono fabric, introducing color, pattern, and a sense of continuity with Japanese textile traditions. Each basket is completed with a hand-made fabric button, crafted by the artist herself, reinforcing the integrity and thoughtfulness of the entire piece.

With its generous size, the large basket is well suited for holding larger jewelry collections, sewing tools, art supplies, keys, or everyday essentials. While the form and materials are consistent across the series, the chirimen fabric varies from basket to basket, making each numbered variant a unique, one-of-a-kind piece.

Deb Luekensによるラージサイズのファブリックバスケットは、コイル状にしたコットンロープを一針一針丁寧に縫い上げて制作されています。広がりのある直径によって、渦巻く構造がよりはっきりと現れ、柔らかさの中に静かな彫刻的存在感を備えた作品となっています。

内側の底面には、色柄豊かなヴィンテージの縮緬（ちりめん）着物布が施され、日本のテキスタイルの伝統をさりげなく感じさせます。仕上げには作家自身が制作した布製ボタンが用いられ、細部まで一貫した手仕事の美学が貫かれています。

アクセサリーや裁縫道具、アート用品、鍵など、日常の必需品を収めるのに適したサイズです。縮緬の柄は一点ずつ異なり、番号付きの各バリエーションはすべて一点ものとなります。
