Brandon Hale Robin's Egg Blue Gaiwan Tea Bowl.

This gaiwan by Brandon Hale combines a gently flared tea bowl with a broad, shallow lid topped by a small cylindrical knob. Wheel-thrown from wild clay and electric-fired, it features a soft robin's egg blue glaze with fine crackling and subtle variations in tone. The lid is a slightly deeper blue than the bowl, while the small unglazed foot provides a warm contrast.

Originating in Chinese tea culture, the gaiwan is used to brew loose-leaf tea directly in the bowl, with the lid tilted to hold back the leaves when pouring or drinking. Its open form allows the tea leaves to unfurl and makes their changing appearance easy to observe.

Brandon Haleによる蓋碗（がいわん）です。小さな高台から緩やかに広がる茶碗に、浅く広い蓋と円筒形のつまみを組み合わせています。自然採取の土をろくろで成形し、ロビンズエッグブルーの釉薬を施して電気窯で焼成しています。釉肌には細かな貫入と微妙な色の濃淡が見られ、蓋は碗よりもやや深い青色に仕上がっています。無釉の高台が柔らかな青色のアクセントになっています。

蓋碗は中国の茶文化で用いられてきた茶器で、碗の中に直接茶葉を入れてお茶を淹れます。蓋を少しずらして茶葉を押さえながら、別の器に注いだり、そのまま飲んだりすることができます。広く開いた形は、茶葉が湯の中で広がり、変化していく様子を眺めるのにも適しています。

自然採取の粘土、ろくろ成形、ロビンズエッグブルー釉、電気窯焼成。蓋付き。
