Brandon Hale Wood-Fired Matcha Bowl with Hexagonal Pattern

This wood-fired matcha bowl by Brandon Hale combines a broad, gently rounded cylindrical form with an unusually varied surface. Made from wild clay and left unglazed, it features a subtle hexagonal pattern across portions of the exterior, where natural ash deposits from the firing have collected around the markings.

Warm reddish-brown clay contrasts with areas of gray, cream, and dark brown, while a pale drip of melted ash extends down from the rim. Inside, the bowl is lighter, with fine speckling, visible throwing lines, and darker ash deposits near the bottom. The contrast between the patterned exterior and quieter interior makes this a particularly engaging bowl to examine and use.

Brandon Haleによる、ゆったりとした円筒形の薪窯焼成の抹茶碗です。自然採取の土を使用し、釉薬をかけずに焼き上げています。外側の一部には繊細な六角形の文様があり、薪窯での焼成中に降りかかった灰が、その模様の周囲に溜まっています。

赤茶色の土肌と、灰色、乳白色、濃い茶色の部分が対照をなし、口縁からは溶けた灰が一筋流れています。内側は比較的明るい色合いで、細かな斑点やろくろ目が残り、底の近くには濃い色の灰が見られます。文様のある外側と、落ち着いた内側との違いも、この茶碗の見どころです。

自然採取の粘土、無釉、薪窯焼成、自然灰の付着と溶融。
