Guy Matsuda Wood-Fired Large Pitcher

Wheel-thrown by Guy Matsuda, this large wood-fired stoneware pitcher has a tall, gently rounded body, a narrow neck, a softly shaped pouring lip, and a long, gracefully curved handle. A warm shino glaze covers the surface, shifting from pale cream and golden amber near the rim to rich peach and reddish-orange tones toward the base. Subtle speckling, variations in sheen, and delicate traces of the potter’s wheel reflect the effects of wood firing. The pitcher’s generous proportions make it well suited to serving water, juice, or other beverages, while its tall, open form also invites use as a vase for fresh flowers or branches. A versatile vessel whose warm colors and graceful shape are equally appealing on their own.

ガイ・マツダがろくろで成形し、薪窯で焼成した大きめの炻器製ピッチャー。背が高く、ゆるやかに丸みを帯びた胴、細い首、自然な形に整えられた注ぎ口、優美な曲線を描く長いハンドルが特徴です。表面にはあたたかな色合いの志野釉が施され、口元の淡い乳白色や黄金色から、胴の下部に向かって豊かな桃色や赤みを帯びたオレンジ色へと移り変わります。繊細な斑点や光沢の変化、ろくろ成形のかすかな跡には、薪窯での焼成ならではの表情が感じられます。ゆったりとした大きさで、水やジュースなどの飲み物を注ぐのに適しているほか、生花や枝ものを生ける花器としてもお使いいただけます。あたたかな色合いと優美な形は、何も入れずにそのまま置いても楽しめます。
