Guy Matsuda Wood-Fired Medium Vase

Wheel-thrown by Guy Matsuda, this medium wood-fired stoneware vase has a full, rounded body, gently sloping shoulders, and a short, narrow neck with a softly defined rim. The unglazed surface reveals warm rose, terracotta, and muted earthy tones, with subtle variations created by the wood firing. Fine vertical markings across the lower body contrast with the delicate horizontal lines around the shoulders and neck, drawing attention to the vase’s graceful curves. Its narrow opening makes it well suited to arrangements of branches, dried grasses, or a few seasonal flowers. The softly rounded form and warm, understated surface are equally appealing without flowers.

ガイ・マツダがろくろで成形し、薪窯で焼成した中くらいの炻器製花器。ふっくらと丸みを帯びた胴、なだらかな肩、やわらかく形づくられた口縁を持つ短く細い首が特徴です。釉薬を掛けていない表面には、あたたかな淡い桃色や赤土色、落ち着いた土の色合いが現れ、薪窯での焼成による微妙な変化が見られます。胴の下部に広がる細かな縦の模様と、肩から首にかけて残された繊細な横のラインが対比をなし、器の優美な曲線を引き立てています。細い口元は枝ものやドライフラワー、季節の草花を数本生けるのに適しています。やわらかな丸みのある形と、あたたかく控えめな土の表情は、何も生けずにそのまま置いても楽しめます。
