Silene DeCiucies Large Wood-Fired Vase with Handles

This large vase by Silene DeCiucies carries the quiet strength and weathered beauty of traditional wood-fired pottery. Wheel thrown in stoneware and finished with a soft kaolin slip, the surface reveals subtle ash deposits, smoky tonal variation, and traces of the firing process across its gently faceted form. Small loop handles at the shoulder lend the piece an amphora-like presence while maintaining a restrained, contemporary simplicity.

The pale, matte surface feels almost stone-like, with layered textures and flashing that emerge differently in changing light. Beautiful as a vessel for branches or dried arrangements, or simply as a sculptural object on its own.
