Andy Vlock Handbuilt Wild Clay Chopstick Rest – Ash Glaze

Handbuilt from white wild clay, these chopstick rests by Andy Vlock have simple elongated forms with slightly raised ends that hold a pair of chopsticks just above the table. Their small scale makes the variations in surface especially noticeable, from gently uneven edges to the marks left by forming and firing.

Ash glaze covers the upper surfaces, where individual decorative markings and the wood firing create distinctly different results from piece to piece. Some show pale gray and green tones, others darker brown or black passages, and several carry flashes of pink, blue, and metallic-looking color. Each rest is individually made and decorated, so no two have quite the same surface.

Andy Vlockによる、白い野土を手作業で成形した箸置きです。細長い形の両端がわずかに持ち上がり、箸を食卓から少し浮かせて置くことができます。小さな器だからこそ、縁のわずかな揺らぎや成形、焼成による表面の違いがよく見えます。

上面には灰釉が施され、それぞれ異なる装飾と薪窯焼成によって一点ごとに違う表情が生まれています。淡い灰色や緑がかったもの、茶や黒が濃く現れたもの、ピンクや青、金属のような光沢を帯びた色が見えるものなど、焼き上がりはさまざまです。すべて手作業で成形・装飾されているため、同じものはありません。
