Andy Vlock Handbuilt Marbled Wild Clay Bud Vase – Ash Glaze

Handbuilt from marbled wild clays, this small bud vase by Andy Vlock has a compact, almost cylindrical form with gently uneven walls and a narrow opening at the top. The mingled clays create warm shifts of red, brown, and darker earth tones across the surface, visible beneath and through the ash glaze.

Wood firing deepens that variation, producing areas of smoky gray, olive, and near-black alongside warmer orange-brown passages. The glaze gathers more heavily across the top and around the opening, while the sides retain more of the clay’s mottled character. Its small opening is suited to a single stem or a spare, simple arrangement.

Andy Vlockによる、複数の野土を練り合わせて手作業で成形した小さな一輪挿しです。やや円筒形に近いコンパクトな形で、壁面には手仕事によるわずかな揺らぎがあり、上部には細い口が設けられています。土そのものの赤、茶、濃い褐色が混ざり合い、灰釉の下から複雑な色の変化として現れています。

薪窯焼成によって、表面にはさらに灰色、オリーブ、黒に近い色調が加わり、あたたかな赤褐色の部分と重なり合っています。釉薬は上面や口まわりにやや厚く溜まり、側面では野土のまだらな表情がよりよく見えます。細い一輪の花や草を生けるのに適した、小ぶりな花器です。
