Brandon Hale Copper-Glazed Katakuchi Pourer

This katakuchi pourer by Brandon Hale is wheel thrown from wild clay and finished with a rich copper glaze, then electric fired in reduction to develop its deep, atmospheric surface. The glaze shifts between charcoal, bronze, olive, and smoky black, with subtle variations that emerge differently as the light changes.
The traditional katakuchi form—recognized by its gently pinched pouring spout—has long been used in Japan for serving sake, sauces, dressings, and other liquids. Brandon's interpretation is quietly contemporary, combining clean proportions with the earthy character of wild clay. Comfortable in the hand and equally at home on the table or tea tray, it is both a practical serving vessel and a beautiful study in restrained form.
Stoneware, wheel thrown from wild clay, copper glaze, electric fired in reduction.
