Brandon Hale Wood-Fired Lidded Jar

This lidded jar by Brandon Hale is wheel thrown from wild clay and wood and soda fired, allowing flame, ash, and atmosphere to play an active role in the final surface. A soft white slip coats the exterior, combed while wet to create rhythmic lines that wrap the form and catch subtle shifts of glaze and firing.

The exterior is finished with a clear glaze, while the interior is glazed with a quiet celadon, creating a gentle contrast between outside and in. The lid sits comfortably within the mouth, echoing the jar’s rounded proportions and making it suitable for storing tea, dry goods, or small treasured objects.

こちらの蓋付き壺は、Brandon Haleが野生粘土を用いてろくろ成形し、薪窯とソーダ焼成によって制作した作品です。焼成中の炎や灰、窯内の空気の流れが表情に深く関わり、ひとつひとつ異なる景色を生み出しています。

外側には白化粧を施し、湿った状態で櫛目を入れることで、器を巡るリズミカルな線が現れています。外側は透明釉、内側には静かな青磁釉が掛けられ、外と内で異なる落ち着いた表情を楽しめます。蓋は本体に自然に収まり、形の美しさと実用性を兼ね備えています。

茶葉や乾物の保存、小さな大切な物のための容れ物としてもおすすめできる、素材と焼成の力を感じる一作です。
