Brandon Hale Wood-Fired Cup – Unglazed

This wheel-thrown stoneware cup by Brandon Hale has a gently waisted profile, with a subtle narrowing at the middle and a rounded lower body. Left unglazed and fired for three days in a wood kiln, its surface carries the varied effects of flame and natural ash. Smoky browns and muted grays are interrupted by patches of warm reddish clay and lighter ash markings, particularly around the rim and near the foot. Inside, deep reddish-brown tones give way to a darker, subtly textured base. A compact, quietly expressive vessel for tea, coffee, or other drinks.

Brandon Haleによる、ろくろ成形の炻器のカップ。胴の中央がわずかにくびれ、下部に柔らかな丸みを持たせた形が特徴です。釉薬を施さず、薪窯で3日間焼成され、炎と薪の灰によって表面にさまざまな変化が生まれました。煙を思わせる茶色や落ち着いた灰色の中に、温かみのある赤褐色の斑や淡い灰の痕跡が現れ、特に口縁や高台の近くに変化が見られます。内側は深い赤褐色から、底に向かって暗く微妙な質感へと移り変わります。お茶やコーヒーなど、日常の飲み物に使える小ぶりな器です。
