Brandon Hale Wood-Fired Matcha Bowl with Ash Pool

This unglazed matcha bowl by Brandon Hale has a gently curved profile, with a slight narrowing below the rim, a rounded lower body, and a defined foot. Made from wild clay and wood-fired, its surface moves between smoky gray and warm reddish-brown, with fine variations in texture and color.

Inside, concentric lines lead toward a small, dark green pool of naturally melted ash at the bottom of the bowl. This unexpected detail contrasts with the surrounding unglazed clay, offering a particularly interesting glimpse of how the wood firing has transformed the surface.

Brandon Haleによる、無釉の抹茶碗です。口縁の少し下でわずかにくびれ、下部にふくらみを持たせた形と、はっきりとした高台が特徴です。自然採取の土を薪窯で焼成し、表面には煙を思わせる灰色から温かみのある赤茶色まで、微妙な色と質感の変化が現れています。

内側には同心円状のろくろ目が残り、底には薪窯の中で自然に降り積もった灰が溶けてできた、深い緑色の小さな釉溜まりが見られます。周囲の無釉の土肌との対比が印象的で、薪窯での焼成によって生まれる表面の変化を感じさせます。
