Brandon Hale Wood-Fired Tea Cup – Natural Ash

These small, wheel-thrown stoneware tea cups by Brandon Hale have compact, gently rounded forms and softly defined rims. Fired for three days in a wood kiln without applied glaze, their surfaces developed naturally through exposure to flame and wood ash. Warm browns, rust reds, and muted grays mingle with pale ash deposits, while the interiors range from creamy beige to deep reddish brown. Each cup has its own distinctive surface, reflecting the unpredictable conditions of the wood-firing.

Brandon Haleによる、ろくろ成形の小ぶりな炻器の湯呑み。ゆるやかな丸みを帯びた形と、柔らかな口縁が特徴です。釉薬を施さず、薪窯で3日間焼成することで、炎と薪の灰が表面に自然な変化を生み出しました。温かみのある茶色や赤褐色、落ち着いた灰色に淡い灰の痕跡が重なり、内側にもクリーム色から深い赤茶色まで、さまざまな表情が現れています。窯の中での条件の違いが、一客ごとに異なる景色を生み出しています。
