Chinatsu Nagamune Hand-Dyed Indigo Katazome Wall Hanging – Cosmos

Hand-dyed with indigo on linen, this wall hanging by Chinatsu Nagamune uses katazome resist to create a large, softly edged circular form against a deep blue ground. Within it, hundreds of fine pale marks gather into shifting currents and overlapping fields, their direction changing across the surface.

The title, Cosmos, suits the way the composition moves between scales: the large circle can read as a planetary body, while the densely worked marks within it suggest currents, particles, or expanding fields. Variations in the indigo and the open texture of the linen keep the image from becoming fixed, allowing the surface to change subtly with light.
