Chinatsu Nagamune Hand-Dyed Indigo Katazome Wall Hanging – Dance

Hand-dyed with indigo on linen, this wall hanging by Chinatsu Nagamune uses katazome resist to build an abstracted figure from overlapping fields of pattern and color. Pale blue and undyed areas emerge against the deep indigo ground, while repeated short lines, dots, and directional marks give the composition a strong sense of movement.

The figure is assembled almost like a collage, with curved and rectangular forms shifting across one another rather than resolving into a single fixed outline. The contrast between dense pattern and open areas gives the piece both weight and lightness, while the title, Dance, encourages the eye to read the changing angles and gestures as a body in motion.
