Chinatsu Nagamune Hand-Dyed Indigo & Iron Katazome Wall Hanging – Nani?

Hand-dyed on linen, this wall hanging by Chinatsu Nagamune combines indigo with iron to create a striking contrast of deep blue and earthy brown. Katazome resist defines the large abstract forms, while fine repeated lines and marks remain visible within them, giving the darker areas their own internal texture.

The composition is divided loosely into two vertical groups: three rounded, ring-like forms on the left and a larger, winding form on the right, accompanied by a smaller detached shape above. The title, Nani?—“What?” in Japanese—fits the work’s openness: the forms suggest recognizable things without settling into a single reading. The irregular edges, shifts in density, and contrast between indigo and iron keep the image visually active across the broad linen surface.

Chinatsu Nagamuneがリネンに藍と鉄を用いて染めた型染めの壁掛け作品です。深い藍色の地に、土を思わせる茶褐色の大きな抽象形が浮かび、型染めによる細かな線や反復する模様がその内側に残されています。濃い色面の中にも細かな質感があり、布全体に複雑な表情を与えています。

構成は大きく二つに分かれ、左側には輪のような丸い形が三つ、右側には大きくうねる形と、その上に小さな形が配置されています。作品名の「Nani?（なに？）」が示すように、どこか見覚えのある形でありながら、一つの意味には収まりません。形の揺らぎや模様の密度、藍と鉄による色の対比が、広いリネンの上で強いリズムをつくっています。
