Chinatsu Nagamune Katazome Indigo Linen Table Runner

This linen table runner by Chinatsu Nagamune is dyed with indigo using katazome, a Japanese stencil-resist technique. Rice-paste resist preserves the lighter areas of the cloth while the surrounding fabric takes on layers of deep blue, creating a strong contrast between the indigo ground and the patterned forms.

Across the length of the runner, three large rounded shapes are built from fine parallel lines, each paired with a small white circle. The repeated motif shifts slightly in scale and placement from one section to the next, giving the long composition a sense of rhythm without becoming overly regular. The texture of the linen remains visible through the dye, adding another layer to the surface.
