Deb Luekens Handcut Chiyogami and Glass Magnets

These glass magnets by Deb Luekens combine traditional Japanese paper with carefully finished glass. Each one begins with chiyogami—decorative Japanese paper traditionally made by silkscreening patterns onto handmade washi. Deb handcuts the paper and fuses it to the surface of the glass, then attaches the glass to a magnet, creating a small, luminous object with depth and clarity.

The glass allows the color and pattern of the chiyogami to glow softly, highlighting the intricate designs and subtle textures of the paper. Each boxed set includes five or six magnets, thoughtfully composed so that the patterns relate while remaining individually distinct.

Perfect for refrigerators, magnetic boards, or any metal surface, these magnets bring a quiet note of beauty to everyday spaces. Because the chiyogami patterns vary, each numbered variant is one of a kind.

によるガラスマグネットは、日本の伝統的な和紙と、丁寧に仕上げられたガラスを組み合わせて作られています。一つひとつ、手漉き和紙に模様をシルクスクリーンで重ねて作られる装飾紙「千代紙」を使い、デブが紙を手作業でカットしてガラスの表面に貼り合わせ、さらにマグネットを取り付けています。透明感のあるガラスと千代紙が重なり、小さいながらも奥行きと輝きを感じさせる仕上がりです。

ガラスを通して千代紙の色彩や模様がやわらかく浮かび上がり、繊細なデザインや紙ならではの質感が美しく引き立ちます。箱入りのセットには5個または6個のマグネットが入っており、それぞれ異なる表情を持ちながらも、全体として調和するように組み合わされています。
