Guy Matsuda Wood-Fired Faceted Bowl

Wheel-thrown and faceted by Guy Matsuda, this wood-fired stoneware bowl has a full, rounded body, broad angular planes, and an irregular, gently undulating rim. The unglazed surface reveals warm terracotta and reddish-brown tones, with subtle variations in color and sheen from the wood firing. The contrast between the bold exterior facets and the softly rounded interior gives the bowl a distinctive sculptural presence. Its generous depth makes it suitable for serving fruit, vegetables, or shared dishes, while its open form also invites creative uses as a vessel for ikebana or informal arrangements of branches and flowers. Equally compelling as an object on its own.

ガイ・マツダがろくろで成形し、面取りを施して薪窯で焼成した炻器製の鉢。ふっくらと丸みを帯びた胴、大胆に削り出された平面、ゆるやかに波打つ不規則な口縁が特徴です。釉薬を掛けていない表面には、あたたかな赤土色や赤褐色が現れ、薪窯での焼成による微妙な色の変化や光沢が見られます。力強い面取りの外側と、やわらかく丸みを帯びた内側との対比が、彫刻的な存在感を生み出しています。深さのある形は、果物や野菜料理、取り分ける料理などを盛るのに適しています。また、広い口元を生かして、剣山を使った生け花や、枝ものや草花を自由に生ける器としても楽しめます。何も入れずにそのまま置いても、力強い造形と土の表情が際立つ作品です。
