Hiroshi Nakayama Enclosed Hollow Wall Piece - Twilight Glow Glaze

Hiroshi Nakayama's Enclosed Hollow Wall Piece is a freestanding ceramic sculpture with a rounded, gently pointed form and an irregular carved ridge that winds around its surface, curving inward near the top. The textured line interrupts thesculpture's smooth, expansive volume, creating a shifting relationship between its quiet, rounded form and the movement of the carved surface.

The sculpture is finished with Nakayama's distinctive Twilight Glow glaze, whose iridescent colors change with the light and viewing angle. Silvery gray gives way to shades of blue, violet, green, and subtle rose, with the colors appearing to move across the sculpture's curved surfaces. The effect results from the interaction of light with the glaze's outermost layer.

Wheel-thrown as an enclosed, hollow-walled form, then altered and carved, the sculpture is made from high-fire stoneware with multiple layers of glaze and multiple firings.

Display: Freestanding sculpture. Indirect natural light is ideal for revealing the glaze's shifting colors. Alternatively, use lighting with a color temperature of 5,000K or higher.

Care: Fingerprints may be removed with alcohol. For more thorough cleaning, gently scrub with a soft brush and mild detergent, rinse with water, and allow to air dry.

Hiroshi Nakayamaの「Enclosed Hollow Wall Piece」は、丸みを帯びた自立式の陶彫作品です。わずかに尖った頂部に向かって、不規則な彫りの稜線が表面を巡り、上部で内側へと弧を描いています。起伏のある線がなめらかでゆったりとした量感に変化を与え、静かな丸みと彫りの動きとの間に、見る角度によって異なる表情を生み出しています。

表面には、Nakayamaが独自に開発した「Twilight Glow」釉薬が施されています。光の当たり方や見る角度によって、銀灰色から青、紫、緑、そして淡いバラ色へと移り変わる玉虫色の輝きが特徴です。曲面に沿って色彩が動いているかのように見えるこの効果は、釉薬の最表層で起こる光の干渉によって生まれます。

高温焼成用のストーンウェアをろくろで中空の閉じた形に成形した後、形を変え、彫りを加えています。釉薬を何層にも重ね、複数回の焼成を経て仕上げられた作品です。

展示について： 自立式の彫刻作品です。釉薬の色彩の変化を楽しむには、間接的な自然光が理想的です。人工照明の場合は、色温度5,000K以上の照明をおすすめします。

お手入れ： 指紋はアルコールで拭き取ることができます。汚れが気になる場合は、柔らかいブラシと中性洗剤で優しく洗い、水ですすいで自然乾燥させてください。
