This kobachi bowl by Brandon Hale is wheel-thrown from light stoneware and left unglazed to allow the raw beauty of the clay to shine through the wood and soda firing. What makes this piece especially unique is the firing technique: part of a stacked trio, Brandon placed rice straw and a bit of rice between the bowls in the kiln. This bowl, second in the stack, carries the organic imprints and warm markings left behind by the burned straw. A quiet, rustic piece shaped by fire, tradition, and a trace of the harvest.
