Guy Matsuda – Salt-Fired Plate with Shell Imprints

A quiet plate, rich with presence. Guy Matsuda shaped this piece from BMix stoneware with Helmers kaolin, leaving it unglazed to allow the raw clay and salt-fired surface to speak for themselves. Pale blushes of color bloom at the center, the result of carefully placed shell imprints—each a soft echo of touch, time, and flame. What remains is simple, powerful, and full of breath. It holds whatever is placed within it—food, object, or space itself—with grace.

This piece is food safe and may be used in the microwave and dishwasher, though handwashing is recommended to preserve its subtle textures over time.
