Meet Liana Rice

Liana Rice began making jewelry in 2020, during the early months of the pandemic. A lifelong visual artist who previously worked in painting and drawing, she found herself drawn to the tactile rhythms of sculptural form—particularly the interplay of wire and paper. What began with rings and earrings soon expanded to include origami, a practice Liana first learned from her Japanese mother as a child. She still remembers folding heart-shaped valentines for her classmates—and now for her friends. Her jewelry blends the precision of origami with the expressive movement of wire and beadwork, always guided by the materials’ natural inclination to fold, bend, or twist.

For Liana, origami is more than craft—it’s a connection to culture, memory, and meaning. She’s inspired by the quiet power of handmade adornment, how jewelry can become a form of identity and self-expression. Each pair of earrings invites that intimacy: a small act of beauty made to be worn, shared, and treasured.

リアナ・ライスさんがジュエリー作りを始めたのは、2020年、パンデミックの初期でした。もともと絵画やドローイングなどの2Dアートに取り組んできたリアナさんは、初めて紙とワイヤーを扱う立体的な表現に惹かれました。最初はリングやピアスから始まり、やがて母から幼い頃に教わった折り紙を取り入れるようになりました。クラスメートに折り紙のハートを贈った思い出は、今でも友人へのバレンタインとして続いています。素材の「折れたい・曲がりたい」という感覚に耳を傾けながら、ワイヤーやビーズとの組み合わせで作品が生まれていきます。
