Brandon Hale Katakuchi

This katakuchi pouring bowl by Brandon Hale is made from wild clay using a combination of hand-building and wheel work. The compact form is anchored by a softly defined foot, while the integrated spout is shaped directly into the rim, giving the piece both clarity of function and an understated presence.

The bowl is saggar fired in an electric kiln with charcoal and wood ash. During firing, atmospheric materials interact with the clay surface, producing subtle smoky blues, soft grays, and darker shadowed areas. Unglazed and matte, the surface remains tactile and responsive, emphasizing the raw qualities of the clay and the firing process itself.

Ideal for pouring sauces, dressings, or sake, this piece can also be used as a small serving bowl or contemplative object on the table.

Brandon Haleによる片口鉢は、野生の土を用い、手びねりとろくろ成形を組み合わせて制作されています。低く安定した形に、縁から自然に立ち上がる片口が設けられ、機能性と静かな佇まいを兼ね備えています。

木炭と木灰を用いたサガー焼成により、電気窯の中で焼かれています。焼成中に生まれる煙や灰の影響によって、淡い青灰色や深みのある陰影が器の表面に現れます。釉薬を使わないマットな質感が、土と焼成の表情をそのまま伝えます。

タレやドレッシング、日本酒などの注ぎ器として、また小さな盛り鉢としてもお使いいただけます。
