Juli Kirk Altered Stoneware Serving Plate

Large serving plate by Juli Kirk, wheel-thrown and gently altered to create a softly irregular rim that gives the piece a lively, sculptural presence on the table. Built from stoneware and double-fired in an electric kiln, the surface develops through layered applications of terra sigillata, red and black underglazes, ancient jasper glaze, celadon, and expressive clay pencil markings.

The interior reveals a quiet field of pale celadon and soft gray tones, animated by gestural lines and subtle traces of the making process. Along the rim, earthy iron reds and smoky browns gather and shift, creating a dynamic border that frames whatever is served within. Each plate is slightly unique, with natural variation in the rim height and surface markings.

At roughly 10.5 inches in diameter, this generous plate works beautifully as a serving dish for vegetables, pasta, or shared courses, while also standing comfortably on its own as a striking display piece.

Juli Kirkによる大きなサービングプレート。ろくろ成形した後、縁をやわらかく変形させることで、テーブルの上に彫刻的な存在感を生み出しています。石器土を用い、電気窯で二度焼成。テラ・シジラータ、赤と黒のアンダーグレーズ、エンシェントジャスパー釉、青磁釉、そして粘土ペンシルによる線描を重ねることで、豊かな表情のある表面が生まれています。

内側には淡い青磁と柔らかなグレーの色調が広がり、制作の痕跡を思わせる自由な線や筆致が静かな動きを与えています。縁にかけては鉄分を含んだ赤やスモーキーな茶色が現れ、料理を引き立てる印象的なフレームを形づくります。縁の高さや表情には一点ごとの自然な違いがあります。

直径約10.5インチのゆったりとしたサイズで、野菜料理やパスタ、取り分け料理のサービングプレートとして理想的です。また、テーブルや棚に飾る器としても美しく映えます。
