Juli Kirk Altered Stoneware Plate

Medium plate by Juli Kirk, wheel-thrown and gently altered to create an organic, softly undulating rim. Made from stoneware and double-fired in an electric kiln, the surface is built through layered applications of terra sigillata, red and black underglazes, ancient jasper glaze, celadon, and expressive clay pencil markings.

The interior presents a quiet, luminous field of pale celadon and soft gray, animated by spontaneous line work and subtle gestures that record the movement of the hand. A warm band of iron-rich red gathers along the rim, creating a natural frame that draws the eye inward while emphasizing the sculptural edge of the form. Each plate carries its own unique constellation of marks and variations in the height of the rim.

At approximately 8 inches in diameter, this versatile plate works beautifully for small composed meals, pastries, fruit, or shared appetizers, and can also be displayed as a striking ceramic object when not in use.

Juli Kirkによるミディアムサイズのプレート。ろくろ成形の後、縁をやわらかく変形させることで、有機的でゆらぎのある輪郭が生まれています。石器土を用い、電気窯で二度焼成。テラ・シジラータ、赤と黒のアンダーグレーズ、エンシェントジャスパー釉、青磁釉、そして粘土ペンシルによる線描を重ねることで、豊かな層を持つ表面が作り出されています。

内側には淡い青磁と柔らかなグレーの色調が広がり、自由な線やさりげない筆致が静かな動きを添えています。縁には鉄分を含んだ赤みのある色合いが集まり、料理を引き立てながら器の彫刻的な輪郭を際立たせます。縁の高さや線の表情には一点ごとの自然な違いがあります。

直径約8インチの扱いやすいサイズで、軽い食事やデザート、フルーツ、小皿料理などにぴったりです。使用しない時には、陶のオブジェとして飾っても美しく映えます。
