Juli Kirk Saggar-Fired Serving Bowl

This expressive serving bowl by Juli Kirk is shaped with a softly irregular rim that gives the vessel a natural, almost geological presence. The surface carries the layered traces of the artist’s process: terra sigillata, cobalt carbonate washes, steel wool markings and impressions, sawdust, and liquid quartz. Fired in a saggar and double-fired, these materials interact unpredictably in the kiln, creating smoky transitions, mineral blues, and subtle atmospheric markings across the clay.

Each bowl in this small series shares the same materials and firing approach while emerging with its own distinct landscape of color and surface.

Beautiful as a serving bowl for salads, fruit, or shared dishes, the form also works as a striking centerpiece or display vessel.

Juli Kirkによるサガー焼成のサービングボウル。柔らかく不規則に波打つ縁が、自然の地形のような存在感を生み出しています。表面にはテラ・シジラータ、コバルトカーボネート、スチールウールによる痕跡や圧痕、おがくず、リキッドクォーツなどが重ねられ、サガー焼成と二度焼成によって偶然性のある煙の表情や鉱物的な青、繊細な焼成痕が現れています。

同じ素材と技法から生まれたシリーズですが、それぞれが異なる景色のような表情を持っています。

サラダや果物、取り分け料理のサービングボウルとして美しく、テーブルのセンターピースやオブジェとしても印象的です。
