Juli Kirk Saggar-Fired Serving Platter

This saggar-fired serving platter by Juli Kirk presents a wide, open surface shaped with a softly irregular rim that gives the piece a natural, organic presence. The surface reveals the layered traces of the artist’s firing process: terra sigillata, cobalt carbonate washes, steel wool markings and impressions, sawdust, and liquid quartz. During saggar firing and a second firing, these materials interact unpredictably in the kiln, producing smoky transitions, mineral blues, and subtle atmospheric markings across the clay.

The broad form works beautifully for serving shared dishes, cheeses, breads, or fruit, while the expressive surface also allows the piece to function as a striking display platter or table centerpiece.
