Brandon Hale Wood-Fired Unglazed Stoneware Vase

This medium-sized vase by Brandon Hale is wheel thrown from stoneware and left unglazed, allowing the effects of wood and soda firing to fully shape its surface. The warm, earthy body carries subtle flashing, ash deposits, and granular texture where flame and vapor met the clay directly in the kiln.

The rounded form and gently narrowed mouth give the piece a contained, grounded presence, while the firing marks animate the surface with quiet movement and variation. With no glaze to intervene, the clay itself becomes the record—of heat, ash, and time.

Well suited to a small bouquet or dried arrangement, the vase also stands comfortably on its own as a sculptural object.
