Andy Vlock Wood-Fired Ash Glaze Cup

This wood-fired cup by Andy Vlock is made from stoneware clay and finished with a natural ash glaze. Measuring approximately 3.5 inches high and 3 inches in diameter, it has a grounded, cylindrical form that sits comfortably in the hand.

The ash glaze settles into a richly textured surface—soft gray tones layered with warm earth, subtle speckling, and natural variation from the wood kiln. Areas of heavier ash melt create gentle movement across the form, while the darker band near the base anchors the piece visually. The interior is quietly glazed by the same atmospheric process, making it suitable for tea, sake, or small servings.

Each firing leaves its own record of flame, ash, and time, giving every cup a distinct character.
