Brandon Hale Torii Gate Teapot

Wheel-thrown teapot by Brandon Hale made from wild clay and salt fired, with a handbuilt handle inspired by the form of a torii gate. The architectural handle rises above the lid in a gently peaked structure, echoing the simple silhouette of traditional Japanese shrine gates while also creating a strong visual frame for the pot.

The rounded body is richly textured, showing the natural character of the wild clay beneath the salt firing. During firing, vaporized salt interacts with the clay surface to create a softly mottled glaze with warm gray and olive tones that break over the surface and gather in the carved and impressed textures.

The spout emerges naturally from the shoulder of the pot, while the lid sits securely beneath the arching handle. Together the elements create a teapot that feels both sculptural and deeply functional.

Sized comfortably for personal tea or small shared servings, the pot pours beautifully and brings a quiet sense of ceremony to everyday tea preparation.

Brandon Haleによるティーポット。野生の粘土をろくろ成形し、手づくりの取っ手を取り付けて塩釉で焼成されています。取っ手は鳥居の形に着想を得た構造で、蓋の上にやわらかな山形のアーチを描き、器全体に建築的な印象を与えています。

丸みのある本体には、野生の粘土の質感がそのまま現れています。塩焼成の過程で気化した塩が器の表面と反応し、灰色からオリーブ色へと変化する柔らかな斑模様が生まれ、刻みや凹凸のある部分に自然な陰影をつくり出しています。

肩から自然に伸びる注ぎ口と、取っ手の下に収まる蓋の構造が、彫刻的な印象と実用性を兼ね備えたデザインになっています。

一人分のお茶や少人数でのティータイムにちょうどよいサイズで、日常のお茶の時間に静かな儀式性をもたらしてくれるポットです。
