Brandon Hale Wood-Fired Serving Tray - White Slip

This handbuilt serving tray by Brandon Hale is made from wild clay and finished with a layer of white slip, then wood- and salt-fired to develop its quiet, atmospheric surface. The rectangular form is gently curved, with softly lifted edges that give the piece both structure and a sense of movement.

The surface carries the subtle imprint of the firing: warm earth tones, pale ash deposits, and soft variations where flame and salt have interacted with the slip. On the reverse, flashing and natural markings from the kiln create a complementary landscape, revealing the full character of the firing process.

Well suited for small servings—sweets, pickles, olives, or condiments—the tray also works beautifully as a resting place for a cup, incense, or small objects.
