Guy Matsuda Tall Wood-Fired Mug

Elegant and thoughtfully proportioned, these tall wood-fired mugs by Guy Matsuda celebrate the quiet beauty of everyday use. Wheel-thrown from stoneware and fired in a wood kiln, each mug bears subtle variations in color and surface created by flame, ash, and atmosphere. Their gently tapered forms and generous handles create a comfortable balance in the hand, making them equally suited to coffee, tea, or any favorite warm beverage.

Two surface treatments are available. One highlights the natural warmth and understated texture of the unglazed stoneware, while the other pairs the wood-fired clay with porcelain slip and expressive black pigment brushwork inspired by the spontaneity of Japanese painting. Both invite close attention to the dialogue between clay, fire, and the maker’s hand.

表面には二つの仕上げをご用意しています。一つは釉薬をかけず、土そのものの温もりと薪焼成による自然な景色を味わえるタイプ。もう一つは磁土化粧の上に黒い顔料でのびやかな筆致を描き、日本の絵画を思わせる軽やかな表情を添えたタイプです。どちらも、土と炎、そして作り手の手仕事が織りなす豊かな魅力を感じていただけます。
