Brandon Hale Short Wild Clay Serving Tray

Handmade by Brandon Hale, this short serving tray is formed from wild clay that carries the character of its place of origin. The tray is extruded and carved, then finished with a black slip and wood ash, leaving the surface textured, matte, and quietly atmospheric.

Because Brandon hasn’t had access to wood or gas kilns recently, he’s been experimenting with ways to achieve reduction-fired effects in an electric kiln. The result is a nuanced field of smoky blues and charcoal tones, with fine linear marks from the forming process still visible—an object that feels both utilitarian and sculptural.

A versatile size for sweets, bread, sushi, or small shared bites, and just as satisfying as a resting place for keys, incense, or a favorite stone.

薪窯やガス窯を使えない時期が続いた中で、Brandon Hale は電気窯でも還元焼成のような表情を生み出すための実験を重ねてきました。この短いサービングトレーは、その探究の成果が静かに現れた一枚です。

野生粘土（wild clay）を押し出して成形し、彫りを入れ、黒いスリップを施したうえで木灰の作用を取り込みながら電気窯で焼成。表面にはマットでざらりとした触感が残り、煙がかった青や炭のような濃淡が、深く落ち着いた景色をつくります。成形の痕跡として細い線状のテクスチャーも見え、実用品でありながら彫刻のような佇まい。

菓子、パン、寿司や小さなおつまみの器として。あるいは鍵や香、石などを置くトレーとしても心地よく使えます。
