Brandon Hale Anagama Fired Matcha Bowl with Nuka Glaze

Thrown from Randy Johnston’s stoneware clay body and coated in a thick, milky-white nuka glaze, this matcha bowl by Brandon Hale was wood-fired in an anagama kiln. During firing, the glaze reacted with ash and heat to create a soft, flowing surface with pale celadon tints and rivulets of warm blush where the flame licked against the form.

The bowl’s shape is quietly balanced—wide and generous for whisking, but grounded and calm in hand. Suitable for matcha, of course, but also for serving rice, sweets, or seasonal fruit with rustic elegance.

ブランダン・ヘイルがランディ・ジョンストンの陶土で成形し、米糠を使った乳白色の釉薬を施して薪窯（穴窯）で焼成した抹茶碗です。薪焼成により、釉薬が炎と灰と反応し、ほのかな青磁色のニュアンスや、炎に触れた部分に温かみのある赤みが現れ、流れるようなやさしい景色を生み出しています。

抹茶碗としての機能美を備えながら、ご飯ものや甘味、果物の器としても活躍する一品。手に持ったときの安定感と、口縁のやわらかいラインが、使う喜びを引き立ててくれます。
