This wood-fired bottle by Guy Matsuda is defined by its full, rounded body and gently flared neck, a form that feels both grounded and open. The transition from the broad shoulder into the lifted lip creates a quiet sense of expansion, as if the vessel is subtly breathing outward.

Left unglazed, the surface records the direct action of flame, ash, and heat. Fine speckling and soft gradients move across the form, shifting from warm, sandy tones at the base to richer, toasted browns and pale ash deposits near the shoulder and neck. These variations are not applied but revealed—evidence of the kiln atmosphere interacting with the clay over time.
