Brandon Hale Robin’s Egg Pourer / Bud Vase.

This small wheel-thrown vessel by Brandon Hale is made from white stoneware and finished with his robin’s egg glaze. Its narrow opening and softly flared pouring lip give the form the character of a small pourer, while its proportions also make it particularly well suited to holding a single stem or a small grouping of flowers.

The body widens toward a substantial base, giving the piece a pleasing sense of weight and stability despite its relatively small scale. The pale, softly varied glaze follows the rounded form, while the narrow neck and small lip keep the silhouette precise.

Used as a pourer, a bud vase, or simply as a small vessel, the piece has an appealing ambiguity: its form suggests several uses without being defined entirely by any one of them.

Brandon Haleによる、白いストーンウェアをろくろ成形した小さな器です。表面にはロビンズエッグ釉を施しています。細い口とわずかに開いた注ぎ口は小さなピッチャーを思わせますが、そのプロポーションは一輪挿しとしてもよく合います。

胴は下に向かってゆるやかに広がり、底にはしっかりとした厚みと重さがあります。小ぶりながら安定感があり、淡く変化のある釉薬が丸みのあるフォルムをやわらかく包んでいます。一方で、細い首と小さな口元が全体の輪郭を引き締めています。

注ぐための器として、一輪挿しとして、あるいはそのまま小さな器として。ひとつの用途に限定されないところも、この作品の魅力です。
