Brandon Hale Wood-Fired Small Dish with Black Slip

This small hexagonal dish by Brandon Hale is handbuilt from wild clay and finished with black slip, then wood- and soda-fired to develop its richly varied surface. The form is simple and grounded, with softly angled sides that give the piece a quiet geometric presence.

The surface carries the subtle drama of the kiln—deep charcoal tones, warm flashes of iron and ash, and areas where soda has softened and shifted the glaze. The result is a landscape of muted complexity that changes with the light.

Ideal for small servings—condiments, olives, or a simple sweet—it also works beautifully as a resting place for a teacup, a spoon, or a few small objects.
